Terror Watchlist “ No Fly No Buy”
There’s been a shift nationally to go back to the Terror Watchlist bill that would strip U.S. citizens of their constitutional rights for simply appearing on a list compiled by the government. The Terror Watchlist is comprised of more than one million people, according to the ACLU, and doesn’t require listees to actually be suspected of anything. They are simply people who have piqued the interest of someone. There have been stories of people being added because their purchase of airline ticket failed too many times and they kept trying.
By the way, here is just another example of a law that was passed in New Jersey, now being foisted upon the U.S. nationally.
Smart Gun Testimony
We’ve got some clips from the recent hearing on amending New Jersey’s smart gun laws. We start out with State Sen. Weinberg, who wants to focus on how the bill is a “compromise” and how 2nd Amendment Advocates are threatening gun stores. She brought an antigun researcher with her from John Hopkins. Specifically, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, who also focused on the supposed coordinated effort to prevent smartguns from entering the market. These two had a combined 10 minutes or so to present the bill and disparage firearms owners.
We had Jake McGuigan from the National Shooting Sports Foundation. He pointed out a Letter to the Editor where Smart Gun Manufacturers stated they didn’t want a mandate and would prefer the technology succeeded or failed on its own. Also, Scott Bach testified and noted the suspicions of gun owners with any mandates. He also managed to engage with Sen. Weinberg, who attempted to promise not to bring back the convention firearm ban, but couldn’t quite follow through.
I think the anti’s are trying to ensure they get as many people as possible into the hearings now. It was probably embarrassing for them in 2013 to be so outnumbered. They appear to have been working to recruit more groups of show up. I noticed quite a few citing membership with the “Don’t stand idly by” campaign, or “New Jersey Together”. However, all these groups seem to be mixed up. What we are seeing though is an extension of the same strategy as “Heeding God’s Call” where anti’s seek to mobilize faith groups against guns.
